"Cosmologies
Ancient and Modern"
Abstract:
The discussion will offer a summary review of ideas on the shape and form of the
cosmos from the ancient world of Mesopotamia and Egypt to the present day. The
discussion will include the Bible, ancient Greeks (Aristotle, Aristarchus, and
Ptolemy), the Middle Ages, and Copernicus and Galileo as well as Mr. Hubble.
While the focus will be on the shape and form of the cosmos in each case,
consideration will be given to religious aspects as well.
Please
join us for light refreshments outside WSC 109 at 4:15.
