Abstract: A recent article ("A Unified Physics by 2050?", by Steven Weinberg, Scientific American, December 1999) on the prospects for unification of physical theories will serve as the backdrop and motivation for an introduction to the Standard Model of Particle Physics, the most comprehensive verified theory of physical reality we have at this time.
